Episode 56: Nintendo DS

When Nintendo announced a new upcoming heldheld in 2004 codenamed DS (Developer System) they described as “The 3rd Pillar”. The Gameboy Advance and Gamecube were Nintendo’s main machines even though the Gamecube was struggling against XBox and PlayStation 2. However in March 2005 the DS was released and people took notice!

With the dual screens including a touchscreen with stylus it gave gamers a new way to play well loved franchises as well as new series such as Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Nintendogs and many more. The once popular point and click genre made a comeback also.

Chris, Paul and Darran Jones, editor of Retro Gamer magazine discuss their memories of this great handheld as well as a few hidden gems. We hope you enjoy the show.
