This episode we speak to Ashley Day about his career in the games industry. Like Paul, Ashley is a massive fan of games magazines so there’s some looking back at the magazines he read as a kid before jumping into a very varied career.
Returning to the topic of “shmups” covered in Episode 65, Chris Smith mk2 is joined by returning guest Shaun Holley of the Ten Pence Arcade podcast to talk more “shooting things right in t’face”. This time our hosts will be covering the subset of shoot em ups, those played with twin joysticks.
Paul McNally is our latest guest. Paul started his career in gaming at Europress publishing up in Macclesfield in 1991. Previous podcast guest Nick Clarkson gave Paul his start on ST Action where he stayed until almost the end of the magazine. In his years at Europress he also worked on Games-X, Mega Action and Bad Influence, as well as being involved with the tv show.
This episode we revisit the “listener choice” format, previously used on our Dreamcast, Game Boy and Commodore 64 shows. Back before the world went mad, we asked our listeners to share their five favourite Mega Drive games with us, which we then got Paul to count up and combine to create a Top 10 of the most popular ones.
